Kambisa!OnScreen FAQ
For who are the OnScreen workshops?
Everybody is welcome to take part. You do not need any special knowledge or experience in making films. With Kambisa!OnScreen we especially focus on people who do not have this experience and who might otherwise never have the chance to make their own film.
What does it cost to take part?
That depends. While Kambisa is a non-profit organisation, of course these projects cost money. That is why we have to charge for most of the workshops. But to make sure that more people get a chance to take part we also offer free training.
How can you offer free training?
Using the money we make from commercially offering these workshops, supplemented by sponsorship and other funds, we try also offer these workshops to people who would otherwise not be able to afford them, like young people in Zambia.
So can I really make a big Hollywood-style production with Kambisa?
Big film productions can be very expensive, especially if you want them to look like Hollywood films. We do not have that kind money and you probably also don't. But that does not mean you can not make an interesting and powerful film.
With simple cameras you can already achieve great results nowadays, as long as you know how to use them properly. We believe that by being creative, you can make things that Hollywood directors can never make. They might have the money, but they do not have your vision.
What happens to my film after the project?
We are not a big film production company with a big marketing budget. This means we can not guarantee your film will be a big success. First and foremost it remains your own responsibility to try and get your film noticed, sending it to film festivals and tv stations or promoting it online,m but of course we can help you with this.
Will I make money out of my film?
Kambisa! is a non-profit organisation and we do not exist to make money, or help you make money. Kambisa! is there to help you express yourself and share your vision with the world. That is why we want to get your film to be seen by as many people as possible, even if that does not make money directly.
What is the benefit for me?
First of all, making a film is a great chance to express your opinion and views, reaching a lot of people. Apart from that, participating in Kambisa!OnScreen you will learn a lot about filmmaking, gain new experiences and discover new talents. The film you make with us can help you get exposure, making it a good start to continue in the video production industry or in related jobs.
What if my film makes profit?
Before the start of the project, we sign a contract with everybody involved. In this contract we also agree on how any profits will be divided, if there might be any. First of all we try to make sure that everybody gets back the money they invested in making the film. Also, in cases where Kambisa is the producer, we will use a part of the profit to continue our mission. But of course, if your film would win big money in a film festival, or become a big cashing cinema success, it would only be fair you also get your share of this.
