What is Kambisa!OnScreen
Kambisa!OnScreen is our film project, helping people to make their own film. In the OnScreen workshops we teach you the basics of film making. How to write a script, handle a camera and edit your material.
From there we can assist you in making your first film. This can be a documentary or a fiction film, as long as it portrays your own vision.
Why we do this
Film and television are powerful media that can easily reach a lot of people and have a big impact. An ideal platform to make yourself heard and share your visions with the rest of the world.
Thanks to the rapid development of technology over the last years, a simple camcorder and computer can already be enough to make a great film, as long as you know how to use them. With the availability of internet and YouTube, you no longer need to rely on film studios and tv-producers, you can just publish your own film and let other people know about it.
We believe that using film to express yourself should be an option for anybody who has something interesting to say, not just for people with money and connections.
Results so far
In 2007/2008 we did the first Kambisa!OnScreen project in Zambia. The result: three short documentaries, made by first time directors who had no previous film making experience. They were assisted by Dutch filmmakers, but the ideas and visions were all theirs. Check out the trailers here. (add link)
In 2008 and 2009 we made more short films in Zambia. (links) In 2010 we also started offering workshops in the Netherlands.
A few of the people who participated in these projects have continued in the video production industry, studying further, or even starting their own video production companies. For others it has just been a great way to share their vision, gain experience and discover other talents.
